Meet Anita Merlo

Anita’s career in real estate was supposed to be short. She wanted to learn the business and make enough money to put herself through law school. After 37 years, she is still in it—and realized there is plenty of law in real estate.

Anita’s career in real estate was supposed to be short. She wanted to learn the business and make enough money to put herself through law school. After 37 years, she is still in it—and realized there is plenty of law in real estate.

Career background

Anita has been working in real estate since she finished high school, getting licensed at 19. She became the master cold-caller and prospecting pro. She has worked in several capacities over the years, and has grown with the industry since starting her career in 1985.

“As an athlete and broker, I’ve learned to accept defeat and cherish the wins—without taking anything for granted.”

Why she loves real estate

Anita loves meeting new clients and selling them homes or listing their properties. Every day is different, as well as  every client. She likes a challenge and loves to problem solve. Earning a great living is an added plus for Anita. She adores her repeat and referral clients, as she has a tremendous amount of pride and respect for them and the relationships she builds with each one.

Her career today

Anita is a negotiation, mediation and communication pro. She’s played competitive sports her entire life, and believes there is a correlation between business and sport. To Anita, both require discipline and strategy. Anita is a lifelong learner who has taken hundreds of hours worth of courses, seminars, conferences, and events—and continues to do so. Her varied background has given her an excellent skill set to fulfill her role at Bosley as broker and assistant branch manager in the Queen West office.

Community involvement

Anita volunteers at Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter where she assists in raising funds to help women and children escape violence. She also volunteers at the Wildlife Centre. For the past 20 years Anita has sat as a panel member at RECO and has been appointed to chair and vice chair positions over the years within the discipline and appeals committee.
