According to a 2019 study conducted by the National Association of Realtors, when staging a home, 22% of sellers’ agents reported an increase of 1-5% of the dollar value offered by buyers, in comparison to similar homes. 17% of respondents stated that staging a home increased the dollar value of the home between 6-10%. In this same study, 25% of sellers’ agents that staged their listings reported a significant decrease in the time a listing spent on the market. Additionally, if you use your own furniture to stage (when done properly), buyers might want to include it in their offer resulting in a higher sale price! 


First impressions matter 

You’ve heard the saying “never judge a book by its cover” right? That couldn’t be further from the truth when listing your home for sale. The average homebuyer will often decide within seconds of seeing a photo if they’re interested in looking at a property. This is why it’s imperative to stage your home from curb to fence!

If your home is well-loved, staging can help mask those small imperfections that might deter a potential buyer from sealing the deal. A bit of plaster and fresh paint can help you avoid any costly and time-consuming renovations before listing. The most common home improvement items agents recommended to sellers are:


  • Decluttering the home

  • Thorough home cleaning

  • Removing pets for the duration of the listing

  • Carpet cleaning

  • Applying a fresh coat of paint 



83% of buyer’s agents said staging a home made it easier for a buyer to visualize the property as their future home. Here are some ways you can do this without compromising the charm of your home: 


  • Remove personal collections

  • Replace busy wallpaper with a fresh coat of neutral paint

  • Avoid having loud accent walls

  • Remove family photos
