Here's how to find your perfect REALTOR® match!
Dated: September 30 2021
In our last blog, we talked about all of the ways you can prepare to be a first time home buyer. Once you have your monthly budget in check, your credit score up to par, and your pre approval in line - it’s time to find a Realtor to guide you throughout the buying process!
The process of compiling a list of potential Realtors to work with can look different for everyone. Maybe you’ve driven around your desired neighbourhood and jotted down a name and number you saw on a sold sign. Perhaps a friend or family member recommended someone they’ve worked with in the past, or maybe you’ve seen someone that piqued your interest on social media. Wherever you’ve found your potential Realtor, it’s important to do your due diligence to ensure they are the right person to be working for you!
We’ve compiled this list of questions and things to look for when meeting with a potential Realtor.
“What do your former clients have to say about their experience?”
Your Realtor should be able to showcase their success, whether it be through Google Reviews, personal testimonial letters, or references. Someone who is confident and successful in the real estate industry will have no shortage of names and numbers to provide in order to gain your business and ultimately, your trust.
“What is happening in my desired neighbourhood and how will this impact housing prices?”
Your real estate agent should have a strong sense of the local community. Whether it’s new construction, a school closing, or a major retail store opening up, your Realtor should know about major changes/disruptions that could either make the neighbourhood more attractive or potentially work against it.
“What is your availability?”
Within reason, your agent should never be out of touch, especially in a competitive market where waiting even an hour for a response can mean the difference between getting and losing a home. Establishing the Realtor’s availability and preferred method of communication right from the beginning can ensure that the relationship will be a good fit for both parties.
“What sets you apart from the rest?”
If you’re comparing multiple agents to find the best one for you, there’s no reason to hide that. This question gives the Realtor a chance to sell you on their business a little bit and at the same time, it gives you more of the information you need to compare and contrast them against the other agents you’re talking to.
“Do you have any properties in mind for me?”
This is a question that could make or break the first meeting. If they have a few properties for you to look at that day, you know they’re on top of things! You want to work with someone that has done their research and keeps your needs as a top priority.
