Living in The Junction

After a century-long alcohol ban in the neighbourhood, consumption was allowed again in 2001. This reintroduction is credited with revitalizing the area. Rapid gentrification led to restaurants and art galleries springing up, attracting creative types who were compelled by the area’s affordable prices.

Some of the neighbourhood favourites include: Indie Alehouse which has a huge variety of beer and well-received gastropub fare, and  Cool Hand Of A Girl, a popular example of the area’s thriving organic brunch scene.

Throughout the summer collectors and curators flock to the monthly outdoor Junction Flea, selling everything from hand-painted signs to vintage purses and records. Year-round design stores like Mjolk draw artsy crowds and homeowners alike to admire the Scandinavian influenced furniture, clothing and ornaments.

Filled with independent businesses and a palpable community pride, this historic neighbourhood is upbeat, and tight-knit. One of the strongest selling features of the neighbourhood is that it’s within walking distance from one of Toronto’s most popular areas: High Park.
